BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA 105 of a great sickle whose main line, leaving off the small half of the hook, points to the Pole-star. SOME REMARKABLE STARS OF THE SECOND MAGNITUDE The Pole-star, considered by some as the most important of all, is graded by its light as a star of the second magnitude only. All the other stars turn around it once in twenty-four hours. The outer rim of the Dipper points nearly to it, at about a whole Dipper-length distance. There is no other bright star near it, so it is easy to find. The Pole-star is not so fixed as it seems. When the great Pyramid was built, 4,000 years ago. Alpha Draconis was the Pole-star. The long north tube in the Pyramid exactly pointed to this star at its lowest point {R, p. 39). Alpha Draconis is a third magnitude star, in line with the inner wall of the Dipper, at twice the length of the Dipper's side from the rim. ALGOL (Al'-gol), the Demon Star, B. Perseus. Draw a line
